Soda feldspar
Product Details
Soda Feldspar is a widely used mineral in industrial applications, known for its high sodium content and excellent fluxing properties. Composed primarily of sodium alumino-silicate, it lowers the melting temperature of mixtures, promoting the formation of a glassy phase. This makes it an essential component in the production of ceramics, glass, and enamels. Soda Feldspar enhances the strength, durability, and aesthetic qualities of final products, contributing to the smooth finishes in ceramics and improving hardness and resistance in glass products.
Properties
Basically, the two properties which make feldspars useful for downstream industries are their alkali and alumina content. Feldspars play an important role as fluxing agents in ceramics and glass applications, and also are used as functional fillers in the paint, plastic, rubber and adhesive industries.
Key Features
- High whiteness (L) and low yellowness (b) value
- High alkali and alumina content for superior performance
- Ideal fluxing agent in ceramics, glass, and vitrified tiles
- Available in Mactus processed (Refined) and traditional grades
Applications
Soda Feldspar: Soda feldspar is a crucial raw material in various industries. It is valued for its high sodium oxide content, which acts as a flux to lower melting temperatures, enhancing the formation of glassy phases and improving durability across applications.
Ceramics: In the production of porcelain, earthenware, and stoneware, soda feldspar acts as a flux to reduce melting temperatures. It promotes vitrification, resulting in improved mechanical strength, water resistance, and smooth surface finishes.
Glass: A primary ingredient in glass manufacturing, soda feldspar enhances melting, improving hardness, scratch resistance, and chemical durability. It is used in flat, container, and specialty glass products.
Enamel Frits and Glazes: Soda feldspar provides essential fluxing action in enamels and ceramic glazes. It contributes to a smooth, glossy finish, enhances color vibrancy, and improves resistance to chipping and wear.
Fillers: Soda feldspar is used as an inert filler in paints, coatings, plastics, and rubber. It improves durability, thermal resistance, and surface smoothness while reducing costs by substituting more expensive materials.
